Students of the Soil Science Study Program at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) class of 2023 recently embarked on a comprehensive field practicum as part of their Geology and Soil Mineralogy course. The practicum, which took place from June 10-12, 2024, aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in various geological and soil contexts. The trip included visits to the multipurpose Wonogiri Dam, Karst Museum, Tabuhan Cave, and Klayar Beach, offering diverse learning opportunities in both natural and engineered environments.
The practicum began at the multipurpose Wonogiri Dam, where students studied the geological formations and soil characteristics unique to the area. They explored the dam’s role in water management, irrigation, and flood control, gaining insights into the practical applications of their theoretical knowledge. The next stop was the Karst Museum, where students delved into the fascinating world of karst landscapes, learning about the processes that shape these terrains and their importance in the broader geological context.
Continuing their journey, the students visited Tabuhan Cave and Klayar Beach in Pacitan. At Tabuhan Cave, they observed the intricate limestone formations and stalactites, deepening their understanding of karst processes. The practicum concluded at Klayar Beach, where students examined coastal geomorphology and sedimentology, observing firsthand the interactions between marine and terrestrial environments. This field practicum provided the UNS Soil Science students with invaluable practical experience, enhancing their understanding of geology and soil mineralogy in real-world
